Recording King Dirty 30’s Acoustic OOO Guitar is the largest bodied guitar in this 7 series, reflection the 1930s depression and dust bowl area It is an “auditorium size, number “000”, which is sometimes referred to as “OM” for Orchestra Model. There are however subtle differences between OOO and OM, chiefly relating to the width of the neck, but they are the same size guitar, and about 15″ wide. As a general rule of thumb the “O” designation refers to the body size. An O body is quite small, a OO is slightly larger and a OOO is larger still. All O’s however are smaller than a dreadnaught shape. An OM has the same body size as a a OOO, but normally has a 25.4 inch scale length, as opposed to the OOO’s 24.9 inch scale. Also, the body shape of say a 12-fret O, OO, or OOO is often different from the 14-fret models.
Recording King’s History
Beginning as a house brand in the 1930’s for department store chain Montgomery Ward, Recording King acoustic guitars and banjos were developed during the Golden Age of musical craftsmanship. Building on this piece of American history, Recording King has continued its success with a series of guitar sizes that are anchored in classical quality and affordability. This California-based company pays homage to Depression-era fretted instruments—which definitely fits the bill for fun and easy-to-play bargains.
The Recording King Dirty 30’s Acoustic OOO Guitar delivers robust acoustic tone with even response across the fret board. Featuring a super clean Cross Lap bracing and top quality materials, the Series 7 is one of the best sounding acoustic guitar values available. The spruce top provides the foundation for classic acoustic tone, and the tobacco sunburst finish, ivory color body binding and bound sound hole give the Series 7 OOO a real vintage aesthetic. The parallelogram stencil fret board markers complete the look.
Quality appointments include a bone nut and saddle and ivory-button tuning machines. The Series 7 OOO combines traditional OOO-body sound with classic style. Available in Tobacco Sunburst and Matte Black.
