Guitar Strumming Lessons

video guitar lessons by steve stine

After the previous introductions to finger picking and flatpicking techniques, as a beginning string instrument player you need to learn how to strum with proper accents and smoothness, in order to give your playing personality. Our best advice to make quick progress would be to take at least a couple of lessons from master players that will teach you the right elbow and wrist techniques, especially since it’s very hard later on, to unlearn faulty techniques.

Now there is a difference between a guitar mastermind like my friend Joe Bonamassa, one of the top guitarists in the world these days and a top guitar teacher. A guitar teacher of exceptional quality and guitar virtuoso, that I have personally come to enjoy and admire, because of his huge knowledge of music theory, his teaching style, his practice methods and above all his positive personality is Steve Stine. Yes there are thousands and thousands of guitar instructor videos on youTube, but few are as clean and concise as Steve Stine’s. He covers every style blues, rock, country, metal, funk, even jazz and reggae. Even though he’s primarily a lead player, his rhythm work is amazing.

Steve is currently Professor of Modern Guitar Studies at North Dakota State University. After earning his music education degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead, he went on to play in literally dozens of bands over the last 16 years touring the U.S. and England. He’s been a studio guitarist for radio, television and various recording projects. And he even acted in a movie once.

He’s given private, group, and online guitar instruction for over 23 years to literally thousands of students. Many of his students attend colleges nationwide to study music and play in bands, notably, Shannon Curfman, who performs with Kid Rock.

He’s taught music at Red River Valley Montesorri school for over 10 years, and is currently guitar instructor at Elevate Rock School in Fargo, North Dakota. And despite the tattoos, long hair, and shredder-style guitar, he’s a family-man. And even finds time to volunteer his talents to plays guitar in his church.

I have bought at least a dozen of Steve’s courses and value them tremendously, even though I have been playing guitar for longer than Steve is old. I have joined webinars with him on a regular basis and in the last couple of days, Steve is right now introducing 3 videos for a new course he is launching: Strumming with Style. Check it out, it will help your playing tremendously.
